School Direct

School Direct is a school-led training course that gives you the chance to learn 'on the job' in a school. You work as part of the teaching team from day one – similar to student medics in hospitals – learning from experienced, practising colleagues and immediately putting your new skills into practice.

The Wigan Catholic Primary School Direct training course lasts for one year and leads to qualified teacher status (QTS), a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) and master's-level credits.

School Direct courses are a popular choice for those who hope to secure a teaching post in the network of schools in which they are training. If you're successful in your training, WCPSD will guarantee you an interview for roles applied for within our Partner schools.

With School Direct courses you get practical, hands-on training and education based in good schools across the Wigan borough. Our School Direct course has been designed by a group of Wigan Catholic Primary schools – with Liverpool Hope university – based upon the skills that we are looking for in a newly qualified teacher (NQT).
